About the Role

General Job Duties and Responsibilities Include the following but are not limited to:
• A staff member shall conduct a face-to-face safety check of all special management residents, including those assigned to administrative segregation or protective custody, at least every 30 minutes on an irregular schedule. Residents who are violent, have mental health problems, or demonstrate behavior that is easily identified as out of the ordinary or bizarre in nature should be personally observed by staff at least every 15 minutes on an irregular schedule. Observe all areas of each cell, verifying signs of life such as breathing, movement, or responsiveness. It is imperative to see living, breathing, flesh and movement.
• Ensure residents are visible and not concealed during checks. Address and document any obstructions, altered lighting, or covered individuals.
• Open and enter cells as necessary to verify a resident’s condition, following backup and notification protocols when breaching the last locked door.
• Perform checks on an irregular, staggered schedule to prevent predictability.
• Report immediately any signs of medical distress, abnormal breathing, or non-responsiveness to appropriate medical and supervisory personnel.
• Document all checks in real-time using the permanent daily activity logs in accordance with police – no pre-logging is permitted.
• Ensure log accuracy and compliance with the Daily Activity Logs and Shift Reports Policy.
• Use video surveillance systems as supplemental tools, not replacement for physical sight checks.
• Ensure special management inmates are checked with increased frequency in compliance with the Special Management Inmates Policy.
• Inmates who are at risk of suicide shall be under continuous observation until seen by a qualified health care professional. Subsequent supervision routines should be in accordance with orders provided by the qualified healthcare professional.
• Maintain constant communication with Central Control and Shift Supervisors regarding any security or safety issues observed.

Requirements

Qualifications and/or Education Requirements

·        High School Diploma or GED,

·        Must be at least 18 years of age,

·        Ability to stand, walk, and visually inspect inmates and cells for extended periods,

·        Ability to pass a background check and eligibility check to work in a secure correctional environment,

·        Prior experience in corrections, security, or law enforcement preferred but not required,

·        Familiarity with Oklahoma Jail Standards and OAC 310:670-5-2 preferred but not required,

·        CPR/First Aid certified or willingness to obtain upon hire.

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications Required

Must be 18 years of age

A high school diploma or equivalent

Must have a valid driver’s license or state ID

Complete/pass a background check and drug screening

No felony conviction

Ability to work in a loud and sometimes chaotic environment

Available to work days, nights, weekends, holidays, or other special shifts

• Strong attention to detail, in order to complete thorough visual checks of all inmates and cells,
• Ability to write clearly and concisely, including the use of proper grammar, punctation, and spelling so that any reports or document submissions are clear and factual,
• Basic computer/data entry skills for documentation, utilizing video surveillance, and submitting reports when necessary

Ability to work under pressure and handle sensitive situations with professionalism
