Our Cadet Detention Academy is renowned for providing the best initial training to our officers, with over 200 hours of comprehensive instruction, followed by over 400 hours of on-the-job training.

We believe this level of training is essential to ensure that our officers are fully equipped to handle the demands of the job.

The Training Academy of the Oklahoma County Detention Center comprises seasoned professionals with extensive experience and robust qualifications, collectively steering the organization into the future. With years of cumulative expertise, and backgrounds encompassing a diverse range of skills, the team is well-equipped to address the complex challenges within the criminal justice system. With a shared commitment to upholding the highest standards of safety, fairness, and accountability, the training academy team collaborates to implement innovative educational training to modernize the Detention Center's academy practices.

REQUIREMENTS:

· Must be at least 18 years of age.

· Must have a minimum of a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent.

· Must have a VALID driver's license.

· Must pass a thorough background check.

· Must complete Detention Academy (i.e., academics, physical training, defensive tactics, OC spray, etc.).

DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Maintain constant supervision and control of residents within the detention facility.

  • Conduct regular security checks, monitor surveillance systems, and ensure the secure confinement of residents.

  • Perform thorough searches of residents, cells, and common areas to prevent the possession of or access to unauthorized items or contraband.

  • Enforce facility rules and regulations, addressing rule violations and taking appropriate disciplinary actions.

  • Respond promptly and effectively to emergencies, including medical situations, disturbances, and fire incidents.

  • Administer first aid when necessary and assist in emergency response procedures. 

  • Document daily activities, incidents, and observations in clear and accurate reports. 

  • Maintain effective communication with fellow team members, supervisors, the public, and residents. 

  • Handle crisis situations and disturbances, employing de-escalation techniques to maintain order. 

  • Interact with residents in a professional and respectful manner, addressing concerns and providing information with the scope of policies. 

  • Actively participate in ongoing training programs to enhance skills and stay current with policies and procedures. 

  • Work collaboratively with other detention officers, law enforcement agencies, and support staff. 

  • Oversee resident activities, ensuring compliance with established guidelines and facilitating rehabilitative programs. 

  • Safely deliver meals, clothing, mail, and other approved items to residents, following established protocols.

  • Contribute to the safe and orderly detention environment, promoting a culture of respect and accountability. 

  • Ability to work effectively in a loud environment, demonstrating resilience and focus amid distracting and noisy conditions. 

  • Availability to work on shifts days, nights, weekends, holidays, or other special shifts.

  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods, lift, squat, bend, and climb stairs.
